Back in 2017 we had the fantastic news that from a huge collection of applicants we had won the BBC Good Food Show small producers Bursary Award meaning we were the lucky recipients of a free stand at the BBC Good Food Show! An opportunity not to be missed
So, this June (2018) we headed out to the Birmingham NEC for a full week of set up, 4 full days of retailing and shut down all in the name of fabulous food.
Our bursary win came courtesy of Fabulous Food Finds who organise the awards and have the arduous task of tasting all of the entrants' products to find the most delicous. Their (Katie Truss in particular) help and support was amazing and we'd absolutely recommend applying if you are a food producer. We were made to feel very special.
The Fantastic Help and Hardwork
As we don't usually do food shows or direct retailing a lot of favours were called in and a bit of on the spot creativity was called for to create a magnificent stand worthy of Macneil's Smokehouse products. Special mentions have to go to:
The beautiful people at The Handmade Scotch Egg Company who are well versed in the art of direct retailing were kind enough to lend us one of their fridges which fit perfectly in to our stall.
Bee's Dad, Geoff, sacrificed his van and two days of lugging, lifting, stand building and transporting in the set up and shut down of the event - without this I'd still be there balancing a fridge on my own!
To the fabulously talented Louise at Utterly Amore who created the most amazing price list with her beautiful hand writing services. Our price list was incredibly useful as well as a great addition to the look of our stall. Louise offers a range of bespoke services and we can highly recommend her professionalism and craftsmanship.
Josh, Jodie and Tony put in tonnes of extra hours in production to make sure we were fully stocked each day
Caroline, Jodie and Becci who donned their aprons and did an amazing job of sampling, selling, promoting and talking about our products to the many thousands of people who came to check out Macneil's Smokehouse stand
Our friend Hannah of Ludlow Food Festival who was promoting the festival at the Good Food show and kindly visited us and took pictures of our stall
Our fabulous neighbours who made the whole event lots of fun. In particular, The Whisky Tasting Company who sell fab whisky gift sets and were great company Single Variety - our fellow bursary award winners who make beautiful jams and preserves my personal favourite was the raspberry... Mellow Yellow who hands down do the best garlic mayo ever! and all of the other neighbours who helped, gave us samples, sold us lunch and much more
To every person who came and sampled, purchased, ooh'd and aah'd, queued and became Macneil's Smokehouse converts.
Despite an unintentional purchase of high-vis and a pair of steel toe cap boots in a bid to keep the very enthusiastic health and safety team at the NEC happy at the set up we remained happy, busy and keen to share our story with new customers throughout. But a very exhausted team put in an amazing job at the shut down and whizzed away from Birmingham for a hugely well deserved lie in! Until next time?
