What a night! Macneil's were invited once more to the Guild of Fine Food's glittering Great Taste awards night in London's Park Lane Intercontinental hotel. Presented by John Farrand of The Great Taste and Nigel Barden of radio fame.
The Great Taste awards are a blind tasting of food and drink from across the UK and the world. Each year thousands enter and the cream of the crop are awarded either 1* 2* or 3*.
3* products are sent again to be re-tested when the judges select the nominees and the winners for the Golden Fork. From over 12,000 entrants 17 glorious trophies are given out to the top products at this glittering awards ceremony.
Macneil's are no strangers to the event. We were nominated in 2017 and couldn't believe that we'd won for our smoked mackerel so we were just thrilled to be nominated, we never dreamed that we would win again and this time for our smoked salmon.
Bee, Tony, Josh, Caroline, Jayne and Mark donned our best clobber and set off for a fab night of excellent food, great company and cheering on our favourites. As in 2017, the event is so well planned, executed, attended and set up. The Guild of Fine Food really do know how to put on a party. We stuffed ourselves silly with award winning food in the tasting area before the meal began as we sampled delicious 3 star treats from all across the UK.

In the banquetting area we had a great table with a view of everyone and the huge stage with giant screens and some fabulous new companions – the lovely people from Tenuta Marmorelle who were presenting an award.
Our name on the menu showing that we’re nominated for the Golden Fork for the Midlands was thrill enough and to see our smoked salmon on the big screen made it all worthwhile. However, when we heard Julie Mills from Westmoreland say “and the winner is Macneil’s Smokehouse” we couldn’t believe that our small but perfectly formed business was again the winner of such a huge award.
When the award is presented it's followed by a short film of the judges comments which makes all of the hard work we put in seem to pay off.
Needless to say, after chatting to the camera crew about what it felt like to win - click here to see our giddy faces, the rest of the evening went by in a whirlwind of food, drink and much merriment. A dream to win twice and we’re all floating on air.
On to the next big thing at Macneil’s.
